CAROL SUCHMAN TRANSFORMS A TOY STORE INTO JOY FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN

Carol Suchman has made a remarkable leap to the top of Santa’s “Nice” list. Each Christmas, the New York City resident generously donates toys to homeless children, but this time, her efforts have garnered significant attention after she purchased an entire toy store. While strolling through her West Village neighborhood, Suchman noticed a “Going Out of Business” sign in the window of a local toy store. Inspired by this opportunity, she decided to take her charitable efforts to a new level. After negotiating with the store owner, she successfully bought the entire inventory, which included thousands of toys, stuffed animals, and school supplies. Suchman then donated all these items to the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS). Antonio Rodriguez, the director of special events at DHS, expressed his gratitude, noting that while many generous sponsors contribute each year, this was the first time someone had purchased an entire store for donation. He emphasized the uniqueness and impact of Suchman’s contribution. Having previously owned a successful technology company with her husband, Suchman has long been focused on helping children in need. She stated, “I know everyone could use a gift around the holidays,” reflecting her commitment to spreading joy during this festive season. Thanks to her extraordinary act of kindness, many homeless children will have presents to open this Christmas

Wheels of Hope: How One Teacher Transformed Lives with Bikes for Kids

Over 650 low-income students at Pepperhill Elementary School in North Charleston, South Carolina, received brand-new bicycles, helmets, and locks thanks to the dedication of first-grade teacher Katie Blomquist. Recognizing that many of her students had never experienced the joy of owning a bike, Blomquist initiated a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $65,000. Her vision was to enhance the children’s quality of life by providing them with the freedom to explore their neighborhoods on two wheels. The campaign quickly gained momentum, garnering widespread support that exceeded expectations. In just a few months, Blomquist raised over $80,000, with contributions coming from more than 1,000 donors across the country and even internationally. Local bike shop Affordabike collaborated with her to design custom bikes featuring the slogan “Let’s Go Places!” This initiative not only provided tangible gifts but also fostered a sense of community and shared purpose among supporters. On the day of the bike reveal, Blomquist emphasized that this gift was not just from her but from the entire community and beyond. She encouraged the children to remember the kindness they received and to pay it forward in the future. Blomquist’s efforts exemplify how investing in children’s happiness can cultivate virtues like kindness and empathy, ensuring a brighter future for all involved.

KAA DECLARED: ISSAC’S LIFE MAY JUST BE ABOUT TO CHANGE FOR GOOD

Two days ago, the host of the KaaTruths Podcast Studio, Amobi Armstrong arrived in the morning and was approached by a young boy named Issac, who carried a shovel and garden scissors. Issac greeted the host with enthusiasm, offering to trim the flowers and clear the grass, expressing his desire to make the space look nice. The host was impressed by Issac’s initiative, noting that it was rare to see a boy of his age seeking work instead of begging for money. As Issac worked, the host occasionally assisted him with taller flowers. During this time, another boy, who often came to beg for money, entered the studio. After greeting the host, he took his usual seat. Once Issac finished his task, the host playfully praised him for his efforts. The other boy, feeling overlooked, announced his departure while gesturing for money, but the host chose to focus on Issac. Appreciating Issac’s hardworking mentality, the host decided to give him more than just a small monetary reward. He selected seven pieces of clothing from his wardrobe—some of which he had never worn—and handed them to Issac along with 30,000 naira in cash. The host encouraged Issac to confirm his school fees for the new term and to bring either his father or the school’s bank account number for payment. Additionally, he advised Issac against adopting the begging behavior of the other boy and emphasized the importance of contributing positively to others’ lives. To further support Issac’s preparation for school, he arranged for him to visit a barbing salon for a haircut. The host concluded by reflecting on the value of contributing to others’ lives and how such actions are appreciated by those around us.

From Struggle to Support: A Photographer’s Mission to Empower Grads

Richard Wah doesn’t have any photos of his high school graduation – that’s because he didn’t have the money to pay for a photographer when he was a teenager. Now that he’s 44 years old, however, he wants to give other kids the opportunities that he never had. Richard, who works as a photographer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is offering free graduation photoshoots to youth who can’t afford them. All the grads have to do is send Richard an email, grab their cap and gown, and show up for the shoot. The photographer has even hired a barber and two makeup artists to spruce up the grads’ look. The Philly resident first got the idea for the free photos when he was riding the public bus and saw a group of high school grads sporting caps and gowns – except none of them had any parents or family there to support them. After snapping two pictures of the lonely looking teens, Richard took to Facebook with the offer. “I don’t know what your story is and why you can’t afford them, but if you TRULY can’t afford high school graduation pictures and live in Philadelphia, we are allowing you to PAY WHATEVER YOU CAN AFFORD for high school graduation pictures,” Richard wrote on Facebook. “You made it, you have graduated high school, God loves you, and he knows your struggle.” Since the photographer’s post has been shared 20,000 times on social media, he has reportedly been contacted by at least a dozen teens who are interested in his offer. As we pass through challenges, may we have the hearts to help those who still battle what we survived.

UBER DRIVER SAVES TEEN FROM SEX TRAFFICKING RING

What started out as a normal Uber driving shift for Keith Avila turned into an incredible rescue of a 16-year-old girl from a child sex trafficking ring. Keith was working on Monday night in Sacramento, California when he picked up two women and a young girl. While driving them to a Holiday Inn, he started hearing the adults openly instruct the teen on how to interact with “John” at the hotel. Their instructions reportedly included telling her to “pat him down for weapons while hugging him” and “get the donation from him” before anything happened. Keith, being the smart man that he is, dropped the women off, drove around the corner, and called the cops. Police officers arrived at the scene in minutes, arresting the two pimps – Destiny Pettway and Maria Westley – and the man that they were meeting. The teen was apparently a runaway who was then rescued and taken into temporary housing while law enforcement located her family. “The worst thing I thought would happen when driving Uber is that I would be getting drunk passengers and I would have to handle them,” Avila told NBC Latino. “All my life, I thought about people throwing up in the car as the worst scenario.” A member of the Uber Safety Team called to thank and congratulate Avila later that week, but he said there was no way he could have done nothing – he was just doing the right thing.

FLIGHT ATTENDANT’S INSTINCTS SAVE TRAFFICKED TEEN

A quick-thinking flight attendant, Shelia Fredrick, rescued a teenage girl from human trafficking on an Alaska Airlines flight from Seattle to San Francisco in 2011. Fredrick noticed the girl, who appeared to be around 14-15 years old, looked disheveled and uncomfortable sitting next to a well-dressed older man. When Fredrick tried to engage the pair in conversation, the man became defensive and the girl remained silent. Realizing something was amiss, Fredrick left a note for the girl in the bathroom asking if she needed help. The girl responded “yes” on the note. Fredrick informed the pilots, who alerted the authorities. Police were waiting at the San Francisco airport terminal and arrested the man upon landing. The girl was confirmed to be a victim of human trafficking. Now attending college, the girl remains in touch with her savior, Fredrick. The incident demonstrates how much help we could be to others if only we considered other people’s affairs our business too. We cannot in good judgement, fail to mention the importance of flight attendant training to recognize signs of human trafficking, which has been implemented by airlines since 2009. Fredrick’s keen instincts and brave actions saved a young life from a terrible fate.

GOOD SAMARITAN BUYS PLANE TICKET FOR SOLDIER TRYING TO SEE HIS FAMILY ON MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day weekend isn’t all just about barbecues and beach parties – it’s also about honoring service members who have fought for the values of our country. That’s why Josh Rainey didn’t mind spending a couple hundred bucks on a young service member trying to get home to see his family. Keaton Tilson, after being stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, was given permission at the very last minute to fly home to Granite City, Illinois and see his family for Memorial Day weekend. But after spending two days at the airport attempting to wait for a seat on standby, the Army mechanic was starting to lose hope. When Josh overheard his story at the airport, however, he offered to give his ticket to Keaton. The airport staff explained that their policy prevented people from exchanging tickets, but Josh didn’t give up. He then called his wife, who agreed that they should buy a ticket for the young man themselves. The ticket, which cost $341, was a small price to pay for the heartfelt hug, the memory of which will last Josh a lifetime. “He walked away and came back and asked if he could hug me, and I think we both had to fight back the tears after that,” Rainey stated.  “It was pennies, pennies on the dollar compared to what I got back from that hug.” A touch of a moment could sometimes last a lifetime, and this here too tends to fall in such direction. Let’s continue to dish out kindness where ever we go.

A BLIND LAW STUDENT’S JOURNEY: FROM HARDSHIP TO HOPE

Nikita Shukla, a 21-year-old third-year law student at Government Law College in Mumbai, India, had already faced countless challenges when she visited the Radio City 91.1 station last month to claim her prize for winning a radio contest. Little did she know that this spontaneous visit would ultimately change her life. Nikita, who is completely blind, had been abandoned by her parents when she refused to get married after high school and instead insisted on pursuing higher education. With the support of her friends, she managed to stay in Mumbai and continue her studies, relying on small scholarships and donations from compassionate professors. However, Nikita’s financial situation was dire. She could only afford the free meals provided by her hostel, limiting her to around 20 meals per month. Despite these hardships, she consistently scored over 80% on her exams. When Nikita shared her story with radio jockey Sucharita Tyagi during their conversation, Tyagi was deeply moved and decided to share Nikita’s inspiring tale with her 10,000 Twitter followers. The response was overwhelming, as hundreds of listeners called and emailed, eager to contribute to Nikita’s cause. The outpouring of support resulted in thousands of dollars in donations, enough to cover Nikita’s tuition, hostel fees, and provide her with three meals a day. When presented with the funds, Nikita was overcome with emotion, unable to believe that people were willing to give so generously to support her dream of becoming a lawyer. Nikita’s story is a litmus indicator to the power of perseverance, resilience, and the kindness of strangers. Her journey from hardship to hope serves as an inspiration to all who face adversity in pursuit of their goals. It may be truly cold out there, but I tell you for a fact, if there’s a man who is resilient, there’s a kind soul ready to show kindness. Keep aspiring for greatness, keep spreading kindness.
