A SECOND CHANCE: HOW KINDNESS TRANSFORMED LIVES

When a homeless man approached a restaurant owner for spare change, she chose to offer him a job instead. Rather than simply providing a handout and walking away, Cesia Abigail inquired about Marcus’s employment situation. Although he felt embarrassed, he candidly explained that his criminal record made it difficult for him to find work.

Seeing the injustice in this, Abigail hired him on the spot to wash dishes for a few hours, despite her restaurant experiencing slow business. When she offered him a sandwich, Marcus selflessly wrapped half of it to share with a homeless woman outside, an act of kindness that deeply moved Abigail.

Marcus became a reliable employee at Abi’s Cafe located at 1532 E Lake St in Minneapolis, Minnesota, showing up on time every day. Abigail managed to pay him for two-hour shifts daily for several weeks before deciding to make his position permanent. She is now assisting Marcus in saving ten percent of his paycheck to help him get back on his feet.

“Just like Marcus, I had my help,” Abigail shared with News outlet. “People need to have someone believe in them.”
