Dr. Shamanie Thompson’s journey began two years ago when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite her tenacious fight against the disease, she faced complications and developed a paralyzing fear of its return. This fear lingered until she encountered the inspiring story of Brice Royer, another cancer survivor, who encouraged her to transform that fear into something positive. Motivated by his words, Thompson decided to embrace unconditional love as a means to combat her anxieties.
In a heartfelt act of generosity, Thompson and her children created a sign proclaiming, “I am giving Unconditional Love for $0 to heal my fear of cancer.” They set up this sign in a local park, where Thompson began distributing receipts and hugs to 40 strangers in just half an hour. Each receipt bore uplifting messages like “Sunny days will come again” and “You are stronger than you think.” This experience was transformative for Thompson; she described feeling her heart expand and the overwhelming sense of love dispelling her fears.
The impact of this act of kindness extended beyond strangers in the park. Thompson found the courage to reconcile with her ex-husband, a relationship marked by years of conflict. Reflecting on this significant moment, she noted that such peace would have been unimaginable on any other day. This personal breakthrough underscored the profound changes within her as she embraced love over fear.
Since overcoming her battle with cancer, Thompson has dedicated herself to supporting others facing similar challenges. She has become an advocate for breast cancer awareness, sharing her story and encouraging early detection among those in her community. With aspirations to work in a cancer center, she aims to guide others through their diagnoses, embodying the resilience and hope that have defined her own journey.
May we strive to make better the paths which have been rough for us.
