FROM DONORS TO RECIPIENTS: WHAT GOES AROUND, SURE COMES AROUND.

Beryl Good and her husband Doug were overjoyed after winning a raffle at St. John Hospital in Warkworth, New Zealand. To celebrate their good fortune, they generously donated a new ambulance worth $180,000 to the hospital in November.

Just three months later, Beryl faced an unexpected emergency when she slipped on her freshly painted front porch and broke her radius. At 71 years old, Beryl had never been in an ambulance before, so when the emergency vehicle—affectionately named “Dobegoo,” a blend of Beryl and Doug’s names—arrived, she was taken aback.

“My husband (86) and I have never needed an ambulance, but we always understood their importance, especially with our community growing so quickly. It felt surreal when Dobegoo showed up,” Beryl stated. She was also surprised to learn that the ambulance had already covered 32,000 kilometers by the time it came to assist her.
