A CASHIER’S GENEROUS GESTURE

A compassionate cashier decided to help a family struggling with their grocery bill by using her own card to cover half of their expenses.

Ashley Jordan, from Columbia, South Carolina, was shopping with her husband and youngest child. Grocery trips were often a challenge for their family of five, as they relied solely on her husband’s income. Ashley described how most of his paycheck went towards food, making these trips particularly daunting.

On this day, they visited the Walmart on Garners Ferry Road, accompanied by their one-year-old daughter, who was tired and crying in the checkout line. Their cashier, Sharnique Dasant, engaged them with friendly conversation while scanning their items. She remarked on the size of their grocery haul.

As Ashley counted out her money, Sharnique smiled and said, “You guys look like you need a blessing tonight.” After briefly stepping away to the customer service counter, she returned to her register and quietly entered something on the keypad. To Ashley’s astonishment, Sharnique had used her own card to pay $100 towards their grocery bill. Overwhelmed, Ashley and her husband exchanged stunned glances, unable to believe the kindness they had just received. It was damn too good to be true, but none of them could alter the sweet reality that unfolded right before their eyes.

Once in their car, the couple felt a weight lift as they realized that their grocery trip had turned into a moment of hope. “At that moment, we both knew things were going to be okay because there truly are good people out there,” Ashley reflected.

One may be tempted to think the world is full of selfish people, well, while we may not have the statistical backing to accept or reject such claim. We know with absolute certainty, there are kind people everywhere and if by chance you don’t find any, then that in itself is a call for you to be that sweet KIND ANGEL.
